Ask-A-Character

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 29, 2009, 10:17 PM

.: Ramblings :.

Ask any of my characters a question. I know you want to. :iconsneakylionplz:

And then my favorite questions shall be answered in the form of a comic strip. Yes, I want to go back to improving my comic skills. No, I'm not ever gonna give up on making a comic. x3

While I usually reserve this space for the obscure and unknown, I would also like to promote my biggest inspiration - space coyote. I remember when I first picked up her comic, Yokaiden, at the book store and I was hooked at the first page. She also has an online comic called Saturnalia, and again, I was hooked at the first page. I've always wanted to write a comic and she has inspired me to keep improving. Her comics are a must-read. <3

Just cuz you're popular...

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 17, 2009, 9:34 PM

.: Ramblings :.

...it doesn't mean you can bitch at everyone's characters. Pffft. I understand that theft is a big issue here, and it even concerns me.
But... then there are people who go, "OMFG!!1 That n00b made a character that has feathers! And my characters have feathers! They must have copied me because I'm POPULAR THEREFORE EVERYONE IS COPYING ME!!!1" And that's what this rant is about.

WTF YOU GUYS. GROW UP. Just because everyone knows your name and just because you can get an army of worshipers to attack "character thieves" doesn't mean you have to copyright EVERY detail of characters. I'm paranoid about my characters, but even I know that that's just ridiculous. ._.

Also, if you have a problem with someone's art, there's no reason to drag your ass-kissing worshipers watchers into it. I've unwatched some people for that very reason. I don't like that. Especially when I can see that there's reasonable doubt that it was a mere coincidence, but no one else seems to look at these things from another perspective, so they just jump to conclusions and start flaming! I can understand making a public journal if it was downright art or character theft...
but Maybe you're just an inspiration to them. Maybe they drew something similar because they admire you, and they look up to you. Then you slap them in the face. Why not just say, "I understand I inspire you, but you should move in your own direction....."

But that's beside the point. What about the people that are harassed because their character is vaguely similar to popular deviant X? And the attackers say, "those feathers on your dragon character go down the back of its neck just like mine!" UM YEAH. Every dragon character has feathers going down the back of its neck. You don't seem to give a crap about those characters, but then THIS struggling beginner artist is practically run out of the place by an angry mob because of that little detail! Or maybe the tongue looks similar... because pretty much every dragon has a forked tongue! OR, *le gasp* THIS DRAGON GLOWS! Every frickin dragon glows somehow. -_-

Maybe it was a coincidence? Ha, no one even stops to think about that. Maybe it's just because I'm used to coincidences. My good friend and I sometimes compare our brand new characters and say, "LOL we thought of similar things at the same time!" and then have a good laugh about it. But on dA, there's no coincidences, apparently. Because the world revolves around popular deviants, and therefore all ideas spawn from them.
That's why I sometimes don't upload. Isn't that frickin sad? I don't upload a drawing because after spending XX hours on it, I log on just to see a similar dragon in my inbox.
Well, frick, I might as well leave. Cuz I'd hate to get banned because someone disapproves of coincidences.

Get our of your little world, "popular people". Wake up, and start to be ENCOURAGING, not bitchy and discouraging.

And I thought I would be happy all throughout winter break, but then of course dA has to stir up some drama, which I of course have to rant about. Dx

Drawing? What's that?

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 7, 2009, 7:42 PM

.: Ramblings :.

First, a message to my latest watchers:
YOU ARE TOTALLY AWESOME. I HOPE MY HAPPINESS IS EXPRESSED THROUGH THE EXCESSIVE ABUSE OF ALL CAPS.

Just wanted to throw that out there since I've been too busy failing at life to properly thank all of you individually. Yep, I think it's time to nuke my inbox! But I'll do that later. =p

Drawing? Well, yes, I actually am drawing, but for the past semester, I've been starting projects but stopping in the middle of them so I can start another one. Therefore, nothing is finished. And I've been preoccupied with an annoying art project last week but I'm finally done. But all I've drawn are doodles; nothing awesome enough to upload. Mostly sketches of characters and wings. I like to draw disembodied wings. :3

So. The kiriban prizes are being worked on and I think I have a contest prize to finish.

Sub dies in 3 weeks, btw. Expect a feature spam. And then I won't post another journal ever again cuz I love this CSS. :XD:

regarding my last journal

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 12, 2009, 2:32 PM

.: Ramblings :.

If you haven't read the last one don't bother reading this, lol.

SO, I would like to clear up a few points. Obviously, I was so paranoid/upset/tired/sleepy/hungry, that my thoughts came out as an incoherent ramble, which seemed to confuse some people. xD;

1.) I have no intention of publishing Never-Ending Dream.
I don't know how I would go about doing that because the story is very intricate, and rather than following a single character like the standard story format, each character tells the same story in one way or another. That's the point. The story is meant to be seen from a biased point of view, and it's the view of many characters. And while that makes the story sound like first-person, it's supposed to be third-person omniscient.

But that's beside the point. What I want to do is share my characters, and give some background on them. Just like what I did in the headshot of Kailila. Did you get any plot from that? Nope, and that's what I want to do for other characters, but the ones I'm debating over uploading or not are the ones that drive the world's history and events- the gods, the Originia, etc. They're more meaningful to the story.

2.) My concerns aren't restricted to dA. If someone on dA decides to make a princess with wolf ears and tail and red hair and is name Kailila or something, then I'm sure a few of my friends will give them a hard time, and eventually they will relent. Or get banned. But idea and character theft is not restricted to dA. There's an entire world out there, and its problems are similar to dA but on a greater scale....

3.) I understand that someone might think of similar ideas independently of mine. It's inevitable.

4.) I don't care about art theft as much as character theft. Go ahead, save one of my pictures, sell it on Cafepress or something. With time, people will notice and there will be lawsuits and I get the money I earn and the thief will be worse off than before.
[Not that anyone can profit off my drawings seeing as my drawings aren't ever gonna sell]

But again this is getting sidetracked. I don't want someone to say, OH THAT DRAGON LOOKS PRETTY IMMA MAKE MYSELF A PRETTY BLUE DRAGON TOO. And BAM there's a dragon that looks just like Khajhak. That's what bothers me. And since I'm so confined to this corner of dA, who's gonna notice?
And I understand that even if there's a carbon copy of Khajhak or Khronus walking around, it's not gonna be anywhere near as good as mine because they are just mimicks.. but the physical design... I dunno, it would just bother me to know that there's a clone running around somewhere.

5.) I don't care if I'm an inspiration. You should proudly say, "Khezix helped me grow as an artist" and not be ashamed of it because you blatantly ripped my ideas. That's what I want. That's the ideal way to be influenced.

6.) I'm honestly not sure why this bothering me so much. I suppose this is where you just shake your head and say, "Khezix, you think too much!"

OKAY WE'RE MOVING ON NOW. If you want to continue this discussion, take it to notes!
SO LET'S TALK ABOUT ALIENS AND COTTON CANDY. :iconohjoyplz:
